| Based on the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, my CRUDE AWAKENING series has transitioned into a more focused political statement. BP's advertising campaign, designed to claim responsibility for "Making it Right", are full page ads which I used for my collage elements. Each work depicts animal, water fowl and marine life sadly affected by the spill. The glossy black surface in india ink correlates to the oil spilled, and the poisoning of the water. I've arranged the images so that the BP logo is placed where the creature's eyes would be. In "PLANKTON", the centers of the cells are depicted with the logo, and remind the viewer that even the smallest of life was harmed. |
